Wool, silk and bamboo silk are soaked in dye. The natural irregularity of the thickness of the thread makes the uniqueness of each rug, as when soaked in dye, the yarn absorbs less where it is spun tightly and more where it is spun loosely.
Our carpets are made in India by artisans who work under fair conditions and where production methods are environmentally friendly. The hand-knotted carpet "Look from left" is an 11/11 quality, ie 121 knots/inch², and is knotted with a Persian knot, an asymmetrical knot that keeps the warp threads together better. No forced labour or child labour, fair working and living conditions for the artisans, decent and fair wages and ecologically conscious production methods.
The most important step in any hand knotted rug production is the washing process. We use the most traditional way of washing. Using lots of water and a mild kind of soap without any chemicals. We do not need to add chemicals in washing to make a dull rug look shiny, the high-end materials we use make our rugs shine from themselves.
Once the carpet is shaved, the hand carving can start. Also called embossing. During this process, the background part of the design is cut out by hand with scissors. This is done by a team of craftsmen to create a unique 3D effect, resulting in extraordinary detail.
We offer the children of our labours good education, we provide them with registration fee in an English school, books and uniform, and a good, warm meal a day.
Vantyghem Fashionable Flooring is more than a business - it's a family. To us, hand weaving a rug is one of the most beautiful things to experience. In a world that has become increasingly automated and impersonal, we strive to provide a special touch with our unique handmade carpets. These carpets don't just cover floors - they are a way of life, traditions carried from one generation to the next. When you bring home a rug, you bring a family's blessing.
